The acquisition of complex medical device manufacturing companies is no small feat. As part of Philips' acquisition of Spectranetics, I worked to implement SAP Manufacturing Execution and other functional applications. The planned outcome of this project was to bring the business up to Philips' standard way of working and upgrade the factory to be modern and digital.Working within one of several workstreams, I designed several manufacturing routings to digitally capture device history record information. I worked to build these routings to capture data for material components, tooling, and parameter collections in such a way that operators can perform these activities just by scanning barcodes - instead of doing it the old-fashioned way and doing it by hand.Designing and building the application and master data was one thing - determining the hardware needed to take the business digital was another. I worked with our IT department to procure the hardware needed for this project and determine where and how these components were going to be installed. I also worked with our training team to start building the framework we needed in order to train the operators, supervisors, and engineers on the application and the new processes. Working alongside several different workstreams, each responsible for a different kernel of SAP (document lifecycle management, warehouse management, production planning), I learned how complex these integration projects are. I learned that good communication is invaluable and that being able to understand the nuances and complexities of a process beforehand is key to being able to design an effective improvement! Show less Working with the Manufacturing Program Operations team, I facilitated the major transition of our medical device products to comply with the new EU MDR regulations.I did this through the mass collection and update of product work instructions, validation plans, configuration records, etc. I was also successful in creating new configurations for hundreds of MDR product, while monitoring the movement of all respective engineering change orders. In this role I learned the importance of document control networks and the necessity of manufacturing different product configurations. I successfully worked in a team where communication was crucial, consistency was key, and organization was vital. Show less
