    • Euchee Tribe of Indians

      Jan 2012 - Feb 2014
      Federal Recognition Project-Program Director

The Euchee (Yuchi) Tribe is a tribe currently headquarterd in Sapulpa, OK. The Euchee/Yuchi people have historically been lumped under the umbrella of the Muscogee (Creek), however, they are a culturally and distinctly a separate tribe. Prior to removal from the Southeast homelands during the Indian removal in the 1800s, the Euchee/Yuchi people were allied with the Muscogee people under the confederacy; however they maintained their autonomous communities. Upon arriving in Indian Territory (present day OK), the Euchee/Yuchi people set up with 10 tribal bands and organized their ceremonial grounds, as they were in the southeast. Today, three Euchee/Yuchi Ceremonial grounds still exist. Also, the Euchee/Yuchi language still exists today and is still being passed on. The Euchee/Yuchi community has suffered many legal setbacks in the attempt to being acknowledged as a separate and distinct people that they are. Presently, the Euchee/Yuchi Tribe is organized under State laws as a non-profit. The tribe is seeking to finally achieve the federal legal acknowledgment apart from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The tribe can show how historically, legally, and culturally different they are still today. As the Project Director for the Federal Recognition Project, I oversee the enrollment staff and committee to ensure that everything is legally and procedurally correct and verifiable; act as liaison between the Constitution Committee and the tribal council; coordinate the petition documentation with the legal consultant. I serve as the grants manager for the ANA SEDS Grant. As the Program Director of the Language Program, I serve as the Grants manager for the ANA Ester Martinez Language grant. As the Executive Director for the tribe, I ensure that policies and procedures are in place and assist with planning and implementation of governmental policy and procedures.
