  Design and construction for the Replacement, Upgrade and refurbuishment of Zone Substations along the East Coast of NSW. Work involved Contract establishment through to checking schematics ordering equipment and testing. Worked in the NorthPower Design Section enhancing my CAD Drafting Skills designing and drawing up plans for Underground Subdivisions, sending out quotes, Letters, environmental assessments, Drawing UG & OH Construction manuals, Chamber Subs, Town Streetscapes, Streetlighting designs and the associated Data inputting ordering of equipment liasing with the relevant stakeholders to ensure works were carried out in atimely and cost effective manner. Got a good grounding in the Electricity Distribution Network. The Apprenticeship program was well run and you saw all facets of the Electrical Network business from customer service installations, Appliance repair, Metering, testing, Radio and Communications, Underground Distribition, Chamber sub installations, Zone Substation maintenance, Transformer Refurbishment, Service installation and testing, OH & UG line Design, OH Lineworking and Network upgrades and data recording.

  Working in the Network Planning & Development Team of Asset Management @ Essential Energy is a challenging and rewarding role. Our team help scope and price Distribution, Sub-transmission and Major connections projects in the preliminary stages to develop accurate budgets, identify constraints and preliminary timelines for optimization of our core business into the future. The Major connections & Distribution branch I work in helps facilitate and cost connection of High Voltage embedded Solar, Wind and Thermal schemes into the NSW electricity grid. Work tasks involve developing more efficient processes and procedures to effectively run and maintain the NSW distribution grid in a progressive and exciting work environment in a period of rapid change. Our work is keys to the Planning, Design, replacement and refurbishment of our Network in line with budgets, maintenance, future needs and current programs of work. Working with scopes from Planning, managing defects, customer concerns and compliance issues as required to meet the community expectations. Project Manage projects through Environment Impacts, community consultation, construction consultation, Contracts, Approvals, drafting, schematics, estimating, ordering plant and equipment, OH & S and Environmental impacts, Data Inputting, system upgrades and problem solving to ensure the works are carried out in a safe and timely manner.Zone Substation Design section as a Design draftsperson (Technical Officer) for 18 months, working with microstation CAD and smallworld GIS. Enhanced my skills in design and developing greater knowledge in construction techniques, Project management skills maintenance/computer systems and substation requirements. Special projects carried out in the development of Solicitors searches database to standardise CE’s process. This involved IS development, Invoice rectification, staff training and process implementation throughout the Network. This process was successfully implemented and management, staff and customers were all happy with the outcome.Carried out property searches on 66kV network to have the lines surveyed. Worked on Special Projects in Zone Substation section of the business establishing a drawing index to establish requirements for remote Poly Phase metering in our Zone substations for protection monitoring.
