      Personal Care Attendant

This role was my first employment opportunity within the disability field. Home care was the main content of my employment. Working with people who had an acquired brain injury. Encouraging independence and assisting with all avenues of life. Accompanying to meetings, hydrotherapy sessions, Doctors appointments and family functions.Seeing those people become as independent as possible was the most fulfilling part of this role.

      Support Worker

Main role being a support worker, working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds & young people with disabilities. Driving young people from placement to appointments and to weekend respites was one important role. Accompanying young people to have access with their family members, either at home or to the Department of Human Services Offices. Spending full days on outings with young people with multiple disabilities that did not fit into any schooling or programs. This role was one of the most rewarding employment opportunities. Show less

      Foster Carer

I became a Foster Carer with Mackillop family services on a part time respite basis for a couple of young people with multiple disabilities. Allowing their carers to have a weekend break on a regular basis. Being a foster carer myself, I knew how important having a break was! Catching up with family and friends & having time to relax is vital to maintaining a strong and positive placement.

      Support Worker

Working with adults in a complimentary setting, where disabled and unfortunate males could come and get together with like minded people. Being a support worker in this setting was very rewarding. Chatting, setting up and encouraging activities that males enjoyed gave a sense of purpose to those in need. A home cooked meal enjoyed by all became an integral part of the togetherness that the group formed. Due to illness unfortunately I opted out of the work force and concentrated on my foster care family! Show less
