      Lead

DPI Bio-Enzymes is an initiative that started in December 2023 as a research paper on making Bio-Enzyme solutions from kitchen waste. Upon creating a successful Bio-Enzyme, I decided to produce Bio-Enzyme solutions from farm wastes collected in native, Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, and sell them in the local markets there. The objectives of the initiative are to contribute to a circular economy by reusing wastes, replacing environmentally hazardous chemical fertilizers and detergents, and selling Bio-Enzymes to give profits to local farmers. • Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB)

      Jun 2024 - Jul 2024
      Research Intern

I interned at the synthetic biology lab at IBAB under Professor Sanjay Ghosh. During this time, I learned and executed several molecular and microbiology techniques, including plasmid and genomic DNA extraction, transformation (E. coli and yeast), electrophoresis, restriction digestion, inoculation, DNA ligation, buffer preparation, circular polymerase extension reaction (CPER), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), RNA extraction, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, gel extraction, and more.Through the process of learning these techniques, I also became proficient in using various laboratory equipment, such as centrifuges, thermal cyclers, microcentrifuges, vortex mixers, fume hoods, pipettes, heat blocks, autoclaves, NanoDrops, shaker incubators, and more. Additionally, I learned to use SnapGene, a common molecular biology software, to study plasmids and select enzymes for restriction digestion.Throughout the two months, I researched the dengue virus, its lifecycle, and receptors for flavivirus infections. Although it was challenging to read advanced research papers, it deepened my knowledge in this subject and encouraged me to write a literature review in the future. I also had the privilege of attending a four-day BSc-level synthetic biology workshop conducted by Professor Sanjay Ghosh and Professor Swathi Alagesan. During this workshop, I attended lectures on proteins, RNA, DNA, PCR, immunology, plasmids, primer designing, and more.Overall, this internship was an enlightening experience that I will never forget. I challenged myself and learned techniques and topics that are advanced for a high school student. I am excited to pursue other internships in related fields to further expand and deepen my knowledge of biology. Show less
