  Driven by enforced emission standards, automatic transmission manufacturers are diligently seeking possibilities to optimize/minimalize their systems. Thus, a higher performance of friction paper is desirable. Teijin Aramid purchased a state-of-the-art lab scale test apparatus, made by Bruker, to gain more knowledge regarding friction performance of aramid pulp in wet clutch applications.I have researched to what extent current test methods relate to reality and what kind of for the industry relevant information can be obtained from these tests. Besides this, I have optimized the break-in procedure for test samples and investigate the influence of sample preparation and oil temperature on friction properties. Show less Tested to what extent Endumax (an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) increases impact resistance and ductility in Endumax-hybrids with carbon. I have produced composites (vacuum assisted resin infusion) of various materials, did various tests (tensile, bending and impact) and analyzed my findings with (among other things) microscopy and SEM. Points of interest were interlaminar shear strength, adhesion to the matrix, resin content in the plates, voids, surface treatment, processing and structural integrity after impact. Show less
