      Teaching assistant/ midday assistant

I worked as a Temporary Teaching Assistant in the classroom. Supporting both the teacher and the children in the class and with work, I worked with children in groups or on a one to one basis with children who had special needs or learning difficulties. This basically meant that I would follow children around the school who had left their classroom and refused to do their work and I would try, and mostly unsuccessfully, get them to go back into their classroom and finish their work. But thankfully had great support during these times from the Teacher and the Senior Management Team including the Head Mistress. Also worked as a lunchtime assistant serving dinners to children and making sure that children were safe both in the classroom and in the playground. Teaching assistant

I worked as a Teaching Assistant at Ranikhet primary school in Reading, Berkshire. I worked with children with special needs or children who had learning difficulties. I took children on a one to one basis or in groups for interventions. I taught groups and one to one in both English and Maths with all years in the school. I was not based in a classroom which I thought was great as I was getting to know so many of the children. I sat in on SATS with year 6. I helped with some behaviour management with some of the children. I gave speech and language interventions using the packs provided by the SENCO, I took handwriting groups, maths groups and English groups, and I listened to children read writing in their reading record books and filling in the relevant intervention form for the teacher, SENCO and local authority. I would bring in my box of tricks once a week. This is a box filled with pens, pencils, sharpeners coloured pens, gel pens etc. and the children would be allowed to choose one thing from the box for them to keep as a reward for doing all their work throughout the week. I would also give stickers to children everyday for doing the work that I asked them to do. Show less

      Teaching assistant/mdsa

I am a Teaching Assistant to a named pupil with medical needs. I make sure that they aren't getting too tired, hot/cold and that their afternoon meds are given. I have been with this child since they started in year 3 and now they are in year 6. They are more independent now that they have got older and I am able to to help more in the classroom with the other children and support the teacher more when needed or to do some admin work. I am trained in first aid although that is due for renewal next year and also trained in Team Teach. I have also had some training with Garden of Dreams meditation techniques which I use every week. This involves meditation stories while listening to some calming meditation music. the children have a book that we make together and every week they add something to do with the story and what they are or aren't feeling to their book. I have just had some training for ASD and Numicon mathmatics. I am currently working with a child with ASD (aspergers) which I am personally aquainted with as my son is Autistic, my husband is autistic and my daughter is going through the diagnosis stage to determine if she too is Autistic. I am looking at possibly going on to train as a SEN Teaching Assistant. I am also a Lunchtime Assistant. I make sure the children have water with their lunches and that they are being safe when they are either on the playground or because of wet play in the classroom. I absolutely love my job....the school I work at.....the people i work with and the children as well. Show less
