Howard has qualifications in Complementary medicine. Howard has extensive laboratory soil plant and pharmaceutical analysis experience and has written scientific papers, reports, grower manuals on horticulture, plant science and the use of Recycled water in horticulture and broad acre agriculture under pivot & fixed irrigation . He was project manager of the $63 Million Virgina Pipeline delivering recycled reclaimed water from the Bolivar WWTP to 230 growers on the NAP and conducted a 4 year project to prove the efficacy and safety of the use of CLASS A RCW . Howard has managed projects relating to revegetation, landscaping and irrigation of the Adelaide Desalination Plant. Also worked extensively as a scientist in microbiology HEPA filtered laboratories and haematology microscopy units all over Australia and set up testing laboratories for pharmaceutical plants under TGA rule.       Managed the day to day activities of staff and provided technical lead for the production of 17 -20 tonnes of mushrooms per week. Provided day to day operation of computer controlled environmental controls ( airconditoning) of modern Dutch supplied growing rooms pre production rooms and conducted marketing to Coles Woolworths and individual greengrocer traders in the Adelaide markets and interstate. Previously General Manager of Dandy Mushroom Farm and VML with responsibility for over 100 staff and 45 tonnes production per week and $13 MIllion per annum in sales. Included operation of Victorian Mushroom Laboratories a virus free secure laboratory developed to import virus free cultures from The UK and France which saved the Australian mushroom industry ( the second largest horticulture industry by value) from locally acquired virus disease that was devastating the industry. Supervised the building and operation of the laboratory in which were installed terminal absolute filtration and exhaust banks , autoclave media and sterility testing and culture maintenance conducted in laminar flow cabinets with completely autoclaved sterile theatre gowns caps shoes and gloves.       Howard worked from 1997 to 2009 for Primary Industries and Regions SA division Rural Solutions as Senior Horticulture Consultant and Program Manager for wine grapes, olives, vegetables,almonds and flowers in the areas of pest and disease management , agronomy and irrigation specialising in reclaimed water use originally as lead researcher for the Virginia Pipeline Scheme. Howard is a wine grape grower and wine maker on an Estate Vineyard growing and sourcing up to 80 tonnes of red and white grapes per. Worked on soils in the Adelaide Hills , the Riverland and on the Northern Adelaide Plains over many years plus has covered all aspects of horticulture and agriculture production, soil / water science and microbiology of soils and plant diseases. Howard has vast experience in financial and executive roles for production units and not for profit grower groups having served on committees and research committees including government , industry and research body committees for several horticulture industries. Specialised in research into reclaimed water use in intensive horticulture. Howard owned and operated a large horticulture production enterprise with fifty staff and up to twenty (20) tonnes production per week supplying major chain supermarkets and the Pooraka and interstate wholesale markets. Additionally he owned and operated a boutique vineyard and winery business initially located in the Riverland of South Australia and relocating to the Adelaide Hills. Show less
