      Veterinary Assistant

I began Interning at Lake Street Veterinary Clinic the summer after my freshman year of high school. After interning for two summers, I was offered a paid position as a vet tech assistant my junior year. I currently work at the clinic primarily in the summers. This job title includes...-Run bloodwork and operate the lab machines to determine if animals are eligible to undergo anesthesia for surgery- Go in on appointments to acquire a history of the pet, purpose of visit, any health concerns the pet may be having, and if the pet is on any medications at the time of their appointment- Assist vet techs/and or vets to place IV and intubate animals prior to sedation- Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces. Including urinalyses, examining fecal samples, chemistry panels, CBC tests, etc... to help the doctor diagnose and treat the animal - Prescribe and prepare medications and vaccines under the direction of the veterinarians- Clean surgical tools after surgery and repackage tools for future use- Make sure exam rooms are clean and ready for future appointments- Have given vaccines and heartworm tests with assistance from veterinarians and vet techs Show less

      Emergency Veterinary Technician

My high school offered a program to all seniors called The Senior May Project. This is a school-sponsored activity that encourages Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School seniors to acquire work experience in a field they are considering as a college major, a potential profession, and/or as a personal interest. I chose to intern with an emergency veterinary technician where I observed the key differences between a small animal vet clinic and the environment of a 24 hour emergency clinic.

      Large Animal Veterinarian

This internship involves working with a large animal veterinarian and riding along with her and her vet tech on farm calls. I am using this internship as an opportunity to see the differences between a large animal vet and a small animal vet. Moreover, I hope to diversify my experience within this field.
