Bachelor of Arts Business Administration and Management

Activities and Societies: Kappa Nu Fraternity. Baylor is still a private school but they did not allow "National Fraternities" to be a part of Baylor in the old days! Kappa Nu is now Kappa Sigma. I have to tell you that my 10 years of college (1972-1982) were not quite as it seems! Started Baylor in 1972 and left in 1974. Thought I was too smart for school so I packed my suitcase, walked to the highway in front of Baylor University (Waco, TX) and hitchhiked to Denver, CO. • Quality Foods, Inc.

      Mar 1983 - Oct 1984
      Sales Representative

Out of college (for the second and final time☺), new baby, college loan, bills, just moved back to Little Rock, etc., etc.,etc. Y'all know the drill - broke and really needing to work. Started running different Territories for Sales people on vacation. Did this for 6 months until I received my own Territory. Started out at $1,000.00 per month (HaHaHa) but knew there was opportunity out there waiting for me! Set my goals and jumped in with both feet. Primarily selling restaurants but had a school and a healthcare facility. Quadrupled the sales in my Territory within one year because "I knew I could" and I had bills to pay and a growing baby. One of my friends, John Halpin (District Manager), told me that Quality Foods was thinking about adding Equipment & Supplies to their product line. I immediately went to the Vice President of Purchasing and told him I was their man. Well, that was my venture into the next phase of my life at Quality Foods for the next 13 years - and it was a good one. Thank you John Halpin, wherever you are! Show less

    • Quality Foods -- now Performance Food Group

      Oct 1984 - Oct 1997
      Director, Non-Foods & Beverages

I was in charge of managing, sales and purchasing chemicals, paper goods, restaurant equipment and restaurant supplies. The Coffee and Beverage Department was another of my responsibilities, as were the many fine technicians who worked for me. It was here that I was introduced to Ted Giles and Chester Fried Chicken (now Chester's International), which was also under my charge. Quality Foods (now Performance Foodservice) was a great place to work. Don Kirkpatrick, who owned Quality Foods, was a great man and I have tried to pattern my business model of empowerment to employees as I hope he would have approved - He died way too young. • Giles Enterprises (Now Chester's International)

      Oct 1997 - Jun 1999
      Regional Sales Manager

Worked with Chester's Distributors, large chains and key accounts. My specific duty was to grow Chester's and help develop our brand. It was during this time I was able to learn everything about Chester's and was eventually awarded a territory.

    • Moore Food Systems

      Jun 1999 - Dec 2015

I work to insure that the financial stability and management of Moore Food Systems remains focused and healthy. I started this company in 1999 and I do not consider this a "job" but a labor of love. I am one of the fortunate few that look forward to coming to work. I feel that my main objective is to inspire my employees to want to be the best they can be. I work hard to make this company better for all of us at Moore Food Systems. As the leader of this company, it is important to me that my employees respect my decisions and that they know I respect them and have their best interests in mind. I feel that I have achieved the American Dream! As Abraham Lincoln said: "Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be". Show less
