  As a trainee at Moor Trees I gained knowledge in many aspects of nursery management and the care of young trees.I learnt:How to identify different native tree species and their seeds.How to collect, process and store seeds to maximise germination rates.How to care for the seedlings once they had germinated and how to deal with plant pathogens.How to plant the trees to optimise survival chances.How to care for the trees once they had been planted.I represented the charity during Plymouth Univeristy's Freshers Fair where I, along with a couple of other trainees, talked to students about the charity and volunteering opportunities available whilst at university.I also represented Moor Trees at a local Craft Fair where we talked to visitors about the charity and how they could get involved.As part of the traineeship I also got the opportunity to work at a couple of inspiring local organisations as placements, these were: the Living Projects at Pondfield and the Hillyfield.   At the Hillyfield I learnt the basics of a variety of land management skills including: erecting a post and wire fence, bringing an overgrown hazel coppice back into productive management - this included learning how to use a brushcutter, and also gaining knowledge in establishing the coppice, including cutting cutting large stems and layering smaller ones to encourage regrowth. I also learnt about clay rendering on a cob building, maintaining a small market garden and how to use a sawmill. I also learnt how to use a chainsaw and attended and passed a course in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-Cutting. Show less

  I have been an active member of the Landworkers' Alliance's youth group, called FLAME (Food, Land Agriculture: a Movement for Equality), since mid 2021. In the spring of 2023 I had the opportunity to join the group's coordinating team. I am focusing on building connections with other youth groups campaigning in similar areas (sustainable farming, environment, conservation).
