    • Green Garage Detroit

      May 2013 - Aug 2013
El Moore Apartment and Greens Fellowship

I worked in Green Garage Detroit, an entrepreneurial co-working space committed to sustainable triple bottom line practices. The fellowship focused on the renovation of a century-old Midtown Detroit apartment known as the El Moore, and in transforming the adjacent empty parcel into a neighborhood park.Facilitated focus group meetings to review the works of Christopher Alexander, Jane Jacobs, and William Whyte's respected contributions of what makes a park's space comfortable, functional, and a stable community anchor. The sessions allowed extensive concept testing and community involvement for developing the best vision of the park. In respect to renovating the El Moore apartment complex, I analyzed design implications via scenario planning, reviewed how well group ideas aligned to and affected stated goals of the renovations, and provided recommendations that strengthened the El Moore's presence to the larger neighborhood image.Worked with multiple entrepreneurs in small group sessions to investigate business opportunities, and provided a recommended course of action. One concept transformed from supplying pet retail goods into being active on long term animal-human relations. Show less

      Mar 2014 - Feb 2020
City of Alexandria Resource Recovery Station Manager and Program Specialist

Working with the City of Alexandria's Resource Recovery Division, I proactively engage residents and visitors for adopting Alexandria’s Eco-City initiatives. This involves educating the public on the environmental benefits of composting food waste, the handling of yard refuse, and aspects of local recycling. I reinforce interactions on a weekly basis by catering to over 500 residents as they participate in the City's composting program. The engagement results in over 3500 lbs of food waste being diverted from the trash stream every weekend. As the compost program continues to grow, I follow-up with participant’s suggestions to develop creative answers on expanding opportunities. I now am spearheading cooperative use of social media as an online engagement channel in step with in person interactions. Show less

My roles and responsibilities span supporting all T&ES, most notably by:- Being T&ES’s Accreditation Manager. In this capacity, I lead a team of 40+ staff members (upper management to subject matter experts) to document T&ES’s policies, procedures and benchmarks in 29 service areas. We submitted 387 T&ES management practices to the American Public Work Association for analysis and accreditation evaluation for the year 2022. Five T&ES management practices (two organizational and three operational) have been deemed model practices, meaning the American Public Works Association is showcasing those specific management practices for other public works agencies to replicate across North America.- Leading the T&ES Equity Core Team, where I lead the department's evolution to embrace all equity decision-making topics, including racial and social equity, as we provide services to City stakeholders. This team works closely with the department’s Director and interested upper management personnel to formulate and analyze recommendations that change how the department manages programs and processes that impact internal and external stakeholders. Additional responsibilities include promoting and facilitating racial and social equity training for all department staff to align with the City’s All Alexandria initiatives.- Synthesizing digital content and tools that enhance T&ES’s operations. The content and tools vary by context, yet include creating a digital annual/sick leave request form and reporting calendar that facilitates personnel planning at the Director, Deputy Director, and Division Chief level; applying Smartsheet technology products to produce compelling work outcomes and teaching colleagues how to leverage Smartsheet for their work duties; manage databases and creating intake forms to collect stakeholder data and analyze trends that reflect behaviors, desires, and histories of the targeted audience.
