  After completing a 4 year apprentice ship as a Winder / Fitter repairing motors & transformers to 11kV and a weight of 20 tonnes, I worked in the large rewind shop involved in the overhaul and repair of a range of motors and transformers as well as some site work involving the removal, and re installation of equipment on customers sites. It was during this time that I also completed my technical qualifications.

  The operations Director role was seen as a natural progression to the Operations Manger role within the organisation, the main focus being ensuring all projects were completed in a timely manor and within budget, ensuring a company turn over of £12.5 million turnover was achieved, in addition the duties outlined in the manager role this also allowed a technical or operational input at company board level which untill this point had not been directly in place, as well as taking a wider view of the company its performance and its people. Show less Originally acting as the leader for all manufacturing, installation, Technical & R & D ofcompany product the original remit as operations manger was to better integrate projectmanagement with manufacturing and installation teams,(4 managerial direct reports and typically 30+ indirect reports) in addition to this during the early part of this period saw the company relocationof two sites (one office and one manufacturing) back under one roof with an as built area of 23,000sq ft, around the same time I was also the company lead in efforts to successfully gain and retain ISO9001 & ISO14001 at the first attempt through BSI. SAFE Contractor certification for the installation department was also gained and maintained. After the move the development of a specific department to bring in house the assembly of electronic tap switching units was completed, as well mare latterly was the integration of a small transformer manufacturing facility onto site.Other areas of responsibility have included providing technical support both in house and externallyfor existing product, input and support relating to new product development & testing, A further element was the development and deployment of the company wide CRM system(Sage 200 based) to allow a single information point to be available to all employees on a perproject basis.
