  Field Guide CourseIt is a course to become a Field Guide. In this course we learnt a lot about the bush, the animals, the trees, the grasses, the environment and about rocks of South Africa. We also learn how to drive safely with guests in the reserve with wild animals and how to deal with guests on a safari.Basic BirdingWe learnt about 100 birds, based on the ID and the call and to add value on each of them.Tracks & Signs and TrailingWe learnt a lot about the tracks of animals (mammal, amphibiens, reptiles, insects...) and how to trail them.Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH)We learnt how to shoot with a .375 H&H and a .478 Rifle and how to clean them after using them. At the end you had to pass six excersices of shooting and a theoretical Exam.Trails Guide CourseThis is a course to become a Trails Guide. We learnt how to walk with guests in the bush with dangerous game. You need to track the big fives and try to find them on foot. You need to know how to use your rifle, if you come to a real charge with an animal. The most important thing is, don't go to close to an animal, that you never have to use your rifle and be aware the hole time about what is happening around you.Advanced BirdingWe learnt about 400 birds, based on the ID and the call and to add value on each of them. Show less Camp Duties:- Ensuring that the rifle that has been issued personally to you is cleaned after each Activity and maintained in good working condition.- Ensuring that the rifle that has been issued to you is returned to the Rifle Safe after each activity, along with issued ammunition- Ensuring that the Rifle Register is completed for you issued Rifle/ammunition- If requested by Head Instructor, retain a key to the Rifle Safe for unlocking for Trails Guide students and locking once rifle/ammunition has been taken or returned- Ensuring that the company Rifle Handling and Safety policies are adhered toDaily:- Vehicle Checks- Re-fueling the Generators- Cleaning the Kitchen Fat Trap- Re-stocking Drinks Cupboard as requested- Sweep the PathwaysWeekly:- Rake Paths- Food Runs- Wood Runs- Water Runs- Rubbish RunsTraining:- Assist the relevant Instructor on all walks and drives- You will carry the rifle and walk behind the lead rifle- As Backup, the Instructor or students may refer to you for assistance to take the group out of a potentially dangerous situation- Assisting students with in camp rifle use/cleaning- Overseeing Rifle Cleaning with students after each activity Show less
