    • Archaeology Southwest (formerly known as the Center for Desert Archaeology)

      Jan 2003 - Dec 2005
      Preservation Fellow

As a Preservation Fellow at the Center for Desert Archaeology (now known as Archaeology Southwest) I conducted my dissertation research in the Safford and Aravaipa valleys in southeastern Arizona. I wrote a successful National Science Foundation Dissertation Improvement Grant, directed a crew of volunteers in the field and the lab, oversaw the preparation of project materials for curation, and contributed to the overall preservation goals of the Center for Desert Archaeology. My dissertation research demonstrated that the Safford and Aravaipa valleys were on the receiving end of a wave of prehistoric migration originating in the Kayenta/Tusayan area of the Four Corners region during the late 13th and early 14th century AD. Unlike other destinations along this migration route, migrants were readily integrated into the fabric of the local society after a short initial separation. I developed new methods through the course of this research to examine how people leave markers of their identity in the crafts they produce, particularly ceramic vessels, and how that information can be used to follow population dynamics. • Archaeology Southwest (formerly the Center for Desert Archaeology)

      Jan 2006 - Dec 2006
      Preservation Archaeologist

    • Tierra Right of Way Services

      Jan 2007 - Jun 2008
      Ceramic Analyst and Project Director

As a ceramic analyst at Tierra Right of Way Services, I analyzed prehistoric and historic ceramic artifacts from archaeological projects in Arizona and New Mexico, and contributed to a variety of technical reports. In addition, I directed data recovery excavations at several sites in the Tucson area.

    • EcoPlan Associates, Inc.

      Jun 2008 - Jun 2015
      Principal Investigator and Project Director

As a Principal Investigator and Project Director at EcoPlan Associates, Inc. I managed multiple diverse projects, conducted ceramic analyses, wrote technical and synthetic reports, assisted agencies with Section 106 and state level consultation, oversaw and managed crew, created budgets, wrote proposals, and participated in tribal consultation. Although the bulk of my work was focused in southeastern Arizona, I worked throughout the state. I directed and oversaw numerous projects to completion, ranging in size from small Class I surveys to large, multimillion dollar data recovery projects with complicated logistics and permitting requirements, and large crews. I generally managed three to ten projects of various size simultaneously. My attention to detail and strong organizational skills ensured that each project was completed on time and at or under budget. The majority of the projects for which I acted as Principal Investigator at EcoPlan were undertaken for the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). Because most ADOT projects that I worked on were federally funded, I have diverse experience working in the context of Section 106, from small projects requiring only federal or state level consultation to large multi-year data recovery projects. The large data recovery projects I directed have involved managing and overseeing over 40 employees in the field, and directing the completion of complex technical reports. I also acted as Principal Investigator and Project Director on projects undertaken for compliance with Section 110 for the Bureau of Land Management and the Department of Defense (Air Force and Department of the Navy), and projects undertaken for compliance with Section 106 for the Department of Agriculture (United States Forest Service), Department of Energy (Western Area Power Administration), and tribal entities, particularly the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and Navajo Nation.
