I contributed to hydroelectric operations at several projects, including: Smith Creek Hydroelectric Project (38 MW), Electron Hydroelectric Project (26 MW) Black Canyon Hydroelectric Project (25 MW). Under senior engineers, I wrote and submitted a project proposal, I modelled electricity generation rates, I interpreted geotechnical data, and I assisted in seeking a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license.

      Aug 2017 - Dec 2017
      Εnvironmental Engineer

As a consultant on a team of engineers and architects, our team completed water, sanitation, and drainage designs and masterplan for client, a Hospital in rural Maharashtra, India. I surveyed the campus topography, as well as its existing water and wastewater infrastructure. I also conducted field soil tests to assess permeability to determine whether a leach field was feasible as secondary treatment for septic tank effluent. Under senior engineers, I completed the initial water, wastewater, and drainage design recommendations for the client, including drafting and technical writing. During my four months in India, I achieved a working level of cultural competence and integration. Show less

      Environmental and Water Resources Engineer

Representing the United States in rural Peru, I collaborated with, trained, and supported community organisations, local and regional government, health care providers, and NGOs to advance water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives. * Collected and analysed environmental and community health data to prioritise program collaboration to improve drinking water, surface water, and groundwater quality * Trained operators and community organisations in water and wastewater infrastructure operation and maintenance* Chosen by program manager to present Peace Corps WASH program at large-scale regional government meeting. The meeting was attended by hundreds of representatives from community organisations, district, provincial, and regional government, and health professionals.* Chosen by program manager to train newer volunteers and their Peruvian counterparts at their Mid-service training* Trained community organisations in water system administration * Taught household water treatment techniques * Taught children hand washing and hygiene practices * Coached women and girl soccer players * Facilitated intercultural exchange Show less

As an environmental engineer, I regulated the disposal of Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR). CCR are the solid residuals produced when coal is burned for electricity. They are one of the largest wastestreams by volume generated in the United States and CCR pollution, primarily the leaching of heavy metals, is a major threat to surface and groundwater quality. The longtime practice of disposal of CCR in traditionally unlined impoundments and landfills, frequently located adjacent to surface water bodies, has only come under regulation very recently. With support from many colleagues, I am the primary author of several first-ever Agency implementations of the CCR Rule, most significantly, the Gavin Proposed Denial. These documents encompass technical, legal, and policy aspects and include a preliminary compliance assessment of:* CCR surface impoundment and landfill groundwater monitoring networks, subsurface site characterization, and applications of demonstrations that an alternate source caused contamination * CCR surface impoundment and landfill corrective action (i.e. remedial) characterization and designs* CCR surface impoundment and landfill closure plans * Facility plans to develop alternative capacity for CCR wastestreams Show less
