  1. Over view of role. In December 2100 I was promoted to the role of Business Development Director at NPS –NE (predominantly a business development, bid coordination and marketing role). This position is responsible for implementing the NPS Group’s strategic marketing plan within NPS NE; bringing new business into the company, developing relationships with new and potential clients, following up leads with new clients, as well as developing innovative ways of delivering more services to existing clients. I oversee all tender and bid opportunities across Yorkshire and the North East as well as bid managing individual opportunities. I am also actively involved in client relationships and bringing new opportunities into the business.2. Framework successes. NPS have made significant progress ade across the region on a number of frameworks such as Yorconsult, Bradford MBC, Riverside Partnership and I work closely with a wide variety of public sector clients, advisors and leading consultant groups within this area of work.3. Bid and PQQ duties. Another prominent task within my role is to coordinate, oversee and quality control all the submissions by NPS NE for PQQ’s, ITT’s, framework mini competitions, securing new business opportunities through competitive tender and negotiated contracts. 4. Academy market. Developing and implementing a market and business development strategy working in the regional academy market. Key focus in this area is relationship management, winning new and continued existing academy relationships by developing the business profile in the local education community.5. Partnership and joint ventures with numerous regional contractors and public sector organisations. The section had approximately 50 staff who delivered both major and minor construction projects, the WDH decent homes programme, new build social housing, landscape design, structural engineering, clerk of works and CDM services. This section generated 2/3rds of the overall fee income for NPS NE.The main responsibilities of the Acting Director of Architecture role were as follows.Provide vision, guidance and direction for the section. Encouraging and promoting innovation and design skill and flair within a managed environment.Overseeing the development of sustainable design.To ensure delivery of design best practice.Make sure that staff resource requirements are forward planned (with regular reports) to achieve client’s timescales.A major task was to be in no doubt that staff resources were managed and pro-actively monitored to ensure efficient and profitable delivery. Resulting from the KPI’s relating to profitable delivery ensuring that under performance is addressed and resolved.To make sure that the team leaders managed staff and teams as expected.Dealing with clients at establishment head level and or acting as key account holder for major frameworks.Develop the section business plan targets and implement the strategy to achieve the objectives Show less Architect and Assistant Director of Architecture October 2006 to Jan 2013The major skills covered below in the summary of duties are: -Management of the architectural staff, zero carbon housing and sustainable design and design reviews of major projects.My present role involves over seeing the quality of the architectural design work produced by the practice along with coordinating the project teams and workload of the 35 architectural staff. Along with these managerial roles I have particular responsibility for bidding for new architectural projects, designing and presenting new design commissions developed at risk, coordinating the practices net working activities and particular responsibility for the realisation of designs and the development of the new sustainable housing layouts. We commenced on site in March 2010, the first medium sized zero carbon housing scheme in the country in Castleford, West Yorkshire, and the project is constructing 91 new code 6 houses for WDH website http://www.wdh.co.uk. Along with this I coordinate and lead all the design reviews of the major projects the practice works on, at present these are a brand new secondary school, 5 new primary schools and a state of the art swimming pool.Within the NPS management team I present to the client bodies and stakeholders recently being the lead design presenter for partnering projects with national major construction contractors, one for a housing renewal project in Edlington Doncaster with a value of £25,000,000 and another for the North West Construction Hub Low Value.I was also awarded second place in the RIBA national design competition for the refurbishment of 2 turn of the century properties in the Manningham area of Bradford.I have particular strengths in client liaison and interpreting a client’s wish list into a completed design along with a proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and Sketch up.   I carried out self-employed consultancy work in a number of complimentary disciplines, such as a senior project architect with a regional practice, acting as a client adviser to a number of local parish councils and producing a market and business development plan for a specialist procurement company targeting the academies market.The architectural work embraced the following sectors, commercial, residential work both private and social, new build and extensions, ecclesiastical and education projects. The tasks range from concept and feasibility studies (utilising AutoCAD, sketchup and InDesign), planning applications and detail design work and project management work associated with RIBA stages F to K for a very large church extension.The parish council work specifically related to distinct roles, acting as client adviser for capital and refurbishment projects, assisting with business plans and funding bids for a number of grant opportunities whilst developing parish plans.Concerning the marketing and business development work, a specialist procurement company operating within the retail sector engaged my services to produce a plan promoting their range of services within the academy market.   Over view of Design Manager Skill base I am a Design Manager with McCarthy & Stone, UK's leading retirement housebuilder, developments include Ortus Homes, Retirement Living (RL) developments, Assisted Living (RP+) extra care villages, I have specific responsibility for joint venture developments with commercial and retail developers on the larger sites, i.e. Quora, Oakapple & Springfield. I manage the development process including the design & technical aspect for a number of high profile developments in the North East & Yorkshire area, specifically the Ilkley 100 unit joint RL & AL.  This role is responsible for the successful delivery of a portfolio of sites, from acquisition of the land through to build start and delivery of the technical packages for the construction team.  For each site in the portfolio, I lead an internal and external project team consisting of land buyers, planning, surveying, commercial surveyors, regional buyers, construction, pre-contracts, sales, health and safety and relevant external consultants such as architectural, structural, civil, ecology, trees, flood risk, conservation, planning strategy, affordable housing appraisals, section 106 agreements etc.  A further aspect of my responsibilities is to coordinate the delivery of multiple development sites across the North East Region and the eight stage “ fusion” development cycle, from land opportunities all the way through to delivering cost efficient design solutions based lined against the CBR (cost breakdown reconciliations).  A key component is to deliver the planned build start date to the agreed time, budget and quality of design, maximising revenue generation and contribution to the companies operating profit & in line with the business projections issued to the stock exchange as a listed major PLC.Skills & Competencies A good working knowledge of AMP Project Management MS Project, REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Microsoft Excel and Word.   Design Manager based on site for High Bay Logistics Warehouse with complex robotics

   Freelance Design Manager engaged by Harris for the delivery of the new build High Bay Warehouse at NEXT South Elmsall Distribution centre the building housed an automated storage and retrieval systems, 11 aisles and storage locations with an integrated IT system connected to the already existing repack and picking areas. https://www.harriscm.co.uk/news/next-door/. The columns were 22 metres in height, laser-screed floor +/- 5m/m on a piled sub base, dock levellers, metal decking & pre-cast concrete stairs and within the warehouse was a 5 storey steel-framed office block and welfare facilities.  The specifics of my role involved coordinating services and sub structure, HVAC design, steel frame contractor, innovative fire prevention and sprinkler system, fire wall erector, cladding, variety of sub contractor and close coordination with racking, crane provider and complex inbound and outbound conveyor system.
