      Research Internship

      Research intern for the Play2Prevent lab, which is a member of the White House’s Academic Consortium for Games for Impact and a charter member of the newly formed Higher Education Video Game Alliance (HEVGA). In the lab, I did research on an interactive video game for the purpose of risk reduction and HIV prevention in young teens.

      Worked in the lab of Dr. Rabito, and helped with her Green Housing Study, which seeks to determine whether green housing causes more or less morbidity than non-green housing. I entered and helped collect data for this study.

      In the lab of Dr. Evans I worked on research regarding the adaptive and morphological traits of Hydrocotyle bonariensis, a clonal dune plant species. The paper is in manuscript form, preparing for submission and publication.

      I was a Post-Baccalaureate fellow involved with a collaborative research project that addresses questions regarding the spatial genetic structure of Hillcane (Arundinaria appalachiana). This project integrates work of three labs and sits at the interface of population ecology (Dr. Evans) and genetics (Dr. Kikis and Dr. Ashley Morris- MTSU). I was also involved in plant conservation work throughout the state of Tennessee.

      Research Intern at the Equity Research and Innovation Center in the Department of Internal Medicine. Worked with the Eastern Caribbean Health Outcomes Research Network (ECHORN) study, a large cohort study, examining health behaviors and habits that are associated with cancer, diabetes and heart disease. I was responsible for entering and analyzing data and maintaining the biobank. In the Department of Hematology/Oncology at the Yale School of Medicine, I worked on a collaborative, retrospective research study on Polycythemia Vera under Dr. Nikolai Podoltsev. I helped collect data for the study through chart review in EPIC. I also was first author for a study on Myelofibrosis, which looked at patterns of care and outcomes of older patients using SEER-Medicare data.

      Awarded the NCI R25E Summer Research Experience Competitive Award (CA056452, Dr. Shine Chang, PI) to research under cardiologist, Dr. Susan Gilchrist. Analyzed data for a cycling intervention study for cancer patients. Modeled heart rate data using novel approaches to wearable device information.
