Bachelor of Arts Biology, General & Philosophy

Grinnell College was my first choice for my higher education. I was particularly drawn to the school’s openess in its curriculum and focus in liberal art studies, as I felt it was important to learn to think critically and pursue a deeper understanding of the world. Certification Phlebotomy Technician/Phlebotomist

Wanting to return my career focus to scientific research and medical training, I enrolled at Bates Technical College for the purposes of becoming certified in phlebotomy. The program consisted of a comprehensive training in proper collection techniques (e.g. aliquotting & blood smear) for a multitude of specimens (blood, urine, and stool). Curriculum also included patient care and AIDET methodology, and other healthcare testing in patient vitals and EKG readings. • EBay Inc

      Jan 2005 - Jan 2006
      Customer Service Representative

My experience at eBay was the first opportunity in my career where I got hands-on experience from a major Fortune 500 company in the ICT sector. I was hired on as a customer service representative, providing customer service and support solutions to eBay customer accounts. Perhaps the most important experience accrued from eBay was my ability to develop two key skills: managing customer relations with online support (account activations, troubleshooting, responding to FAQs) and providing data analysis and recommendations to data operations. One particular instance I am personally proud of was when I was elected by my colleagues and management to participate in an internal review team that reviewed and petitioned recommendations from staff in how to improve the efficiency for the customer service team. • NuWest Group Holdings, LLC

      Jan 2006 - Jan 2007
      Temporary Lab Assistant & Researcher

My experiences working as a temporary entry-level Lab Assistant would be my first opportunity to work in that laboratory since getting my college degree in Biology from Grinnell College. During my association with NuWest Group, I worked with five different companies, covering a multitude of tasks in quality control maintenance of lab equipment, conducting laboratory tests for senior researchers, preparation of chemical solutions and collected and reported on data analysis from lab experiments. Despite it being a limited time at each of the companies (although one did extend an offer of full-time employment), the experience I gained from all of the organizations I worked for reinforced the fundamental skills in a laboratory environment: analyze and report laboratory experiment findings, conduct tests, operating within the highest degree of rigorously high lab protocols in sanitation standards and testing procedures. • Amazon

      Jan 2007 - Aug 2010
      Investigation Specialist

Becoming a fraud investigator for Amazon.com offered me a chance to continue a competing career interest in technology and e-commerce. My chief responsibility was to investigate possible fraudulent online transactions and deploy appropriate actions to prevent future illegitimate activity. This entailed researching suspicious account behavior and actively communicating process flows and reported control procedures for immediate action to other colleagues and teams. I was encouraged to use my own judgment and critical thinking skills by balancing quantitative data with personal intuition. What I enjoyed most about this role was the fact that it gave me the opportunity to develop a new training curriculum for a group of new hires and make a personal contribution to the direction of the company. • Northwest Comics-n-Games

      Jun 2011 - Dec 2015
      Online Sales & Fulfillment Manager

Northwest Comics-n-Games is an online merchant start-up selling Collectibles nationally with over $10,000 in sales last year alone. I was in charge of processing & fulfilling online orders, managing supply challenges should they arise, and catalog inventory. I've taken the experience gained in executing, creating relationships, and organization to my next job.

    • MultiCare Health System

      Jun 2014 - Jul 2014
      Phlebotomist

This was an externship program associated with my technical training in phlebotomist accreditation from Bates Technical College. My opportunity at the Covington Medical Center's out-patient lab allowed me to apply the instructional lessons to gain practical, hands-on experience in a supervised setting. But aside from applying my technical skills, my experiences at Covington allowed for me to gain the ability to comfortably converse with strangers face-to-face in a personable manner that left them confident in my abilities and the care they were receiving. This was a valuable lesson to understand and I would characterize it as a top motivating reason to work in the healthcare industry: wanting to play a role in effectively explaining procedures to ease or eliminate fear for those who need medical attention in any scenario.
