  In this work, the performance of the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)-Solar Parabolic Dish Collector system and its parallel operation with the electric heater was studied. A design was proposed in which the solar energy supports the electric heater in achieving the required temperature difference of the water. A parabolic dish reflector (mirror facets) used for concentrating solar rays on to the receiver was designed and modeled in MATLAB. The receiver was considered to be made of copper tubes and spirally wound to bring the conical shape. Its shape and dimension were predicted using Soltrace simulation and ray tracing (MATLAB). Solar energy output being inconsistent and available only for 8 hours a day, the developed Solar Parabolic Dish Collector system could not directly replace the electric heater in the pre-existing OTEC & LTTD plant. Hence the dish was assumed to operate in parallel by synchronising it with the electric heater, according to a certain devised algorithm. Synchronization facilitates electrical energy conservation while ensuring uninterrupted operation of the plant. Show less
