The purpose of this study is to reflect on the practices of the use of public space by social groups and the extent to which the quality of public space is the result of practices of social groups.The first part of the work of theoretical nature is intended to clarify key concepts of public space, with reference to approaches predominantly in the field of urban sociology and the sociological characteristics to have in consideration in the design of urban space.The second chapter is devoted to the case study: an analysis "in situ", which is based on observation of predominate behaviors.Based on the findings, we can say that the diversity and versatility of the spaces seem to be determining factors for its use. An area that responds to a greater number of applications is an area used by more people and new activities are driven naturally. Show less
