    • Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

      Sept 1986 - May 1990
      Clarinettist

On call clarinettist and bass clarinettist for regular subscription concerts, recordings, chamber music, opera and ballet performances. Stepped in as full-time player during the VSO financial crisis and even volunteered services to help get the orchestra back on its feet. Three outstanding memories:- Being dive bombed by Canada Geese at Burnaby Lake. What critics!- Rehearsing 1812 Overature on a barge pulled through False Creek on our way to play for the first Symphony of Fire shows (back when fireworks had a real orchestra). All the condo dwellers and boat owners were conducting us as we floated by.- Playing for the opening of Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre in which, bizarrely, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune was performed, but drowned out be a very strategic dropping of dishes in the signature opening flute solo.
