Aug 2006 - Aug 2007International OfficerUpon graduating from Fine Arts, and after a couple of weeks of campaigning, I was elected to represent the university's international students as the Student's Union's International Officer.As part of the executive team, my main tasks were to organise social and political activities as well as cultural events; manage a budget; listen to and advise students; report to the International Center director; attend executive meetings and make decisions to improve the students' experience. My focus was on giving a platform to students whose grasp of the English language was not up to par and to represent them in case of a conflict with the school. I felt these students were vulnerable and easy targets for administrative bullies, as most of them did not know or understand their rights or how to express themselves.I organised social events during school breaks and holidays so that students who couldn't go home and see their friends and family would be able to connect and not feel left out or lonely.Social media was in its infancy, and not many students were using the University's intranet, so we used Facebook vehemently in order to connect our 12,000+ students together. Without a proper campus and 6 schools spread out all over London, we had to ensure the newly branded "Hub", with its media room, library and swanky cafeteria and bar, received the promotion it deserved. It meant a lot of marketing/advertising online and face to face.During my 12 month contract with the University, I took part in a quality audit of the Chelsea College of Art & Design in London.
