  As an extern at Amtrak's Corporate Research and Strategy Department, I performed research into the market for transportation alternatives along the corridor of a particular state-supported Amtrak route at risk for service reductions as a result of the implementation of 2008 PRIIA legislation. Several months after the completion of my internship, it was announced that the route would not be cut.

  Student Senator

  As an elected member of the inaugural Swarthmore Student Senate, I served on the Dining Services Committee, leading a small team in an analysis of dining policy at the College and its peers. Our committee developed a draft proposal for Student Senate legislation that would alter the meal points system and shift dinner hours, as other colleges have done. In August, the Dining Services department announced changes very similar to those we recommended.

In classes with three traveling faculty, I studied political economy, anthropology, and urban planning in each context.   The Neighborhood Developers is a pathbreaking Community Development Corporation operating in Chelsea and Revere, two diverse and rapidly changing cities north of Boston. I assisted with the creation of a GIS map for a project's LEED certification, analyzed results of a neighborhood survey, assisted with community outreach, and participated in community planning sessions.
