The sergeant is responsible for evaluating line staff on an annual basis.• Deputy Peace Officer• Promoted from a Detention Officer to Sergeant• Responsible for guarding inmates in detention institution in accordance with established policies, regulations, and procedures. • Inspects locks, windows, bars, doors, and gates for tampering. • Search in mates cells for contraband articles. • Patrol assigned areas for evidence of forbidden activities, infraction of rules, andunsatisfactory attitudes or adjustment on inmates. • Employs force to maintain discipline and order among inmates when necessary. • Deliver meals, mail, books, and property to inmates. • Escort inmates to and from visiting room, medical office, and educational services. • Prepare incident reports.• Responsible for the overall safety and security of the facility in the absence of the jail Captain and the Lieutenants. • Perform work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in directing and instructing members in the confinement.• Responsible for evaluating line staff on an annual basis.
