  Worked one-on-one with children with autism from ages two to fifteen. Implemented ABA techniques such as PECS, Behavior Chaining, hand-over-hand, and shaping to increase language and communication, appropriate play skills, cooperation skills, and daily living skills. Monitored maladaptive behavior’s and implemented behavior interventions. Collected and graphed data as well as detailed notes on each child’s progress and difficulties. Created progress evaluations and collaborated with parents to develop effective strategies and techniques to involve them in their child’s progress.Key Results:•Worked with a three-year-old client that struggled to speak. Communication was limited to sign language initially, but began working on echoics and the child was able to utilize 4 to 5 different words to communicate by the end of the semester.•Potty trained three autistic clients between the ages of two and four using ABA techniques•Decreased negative behaviors with a three-year-old client such as hitting, biting, kicking, and added 100+ words to his vocabulary Show less

  Provided intensive school based counseling in Bedford County Public Schools for youth experiencing difficulty in the school setting due to mental, emotional, and or behavioral concerns. Worked with each student to develop an individualized plan to decrease challenging behaviors, and increase social and self-management skills. Plans covered areas such as impulse control, appropriate peer relations, organization skills, and anger management. Worked cooperatively with classroom teachers regarding ABA instruction and reinforcement systems to provide generalization and socialization. Worked with parents and teachers to implement consistent behavior therapy techniques at home and school.Key Results:•Established the Therapeutic Day Treatment Program at Otter River Elementary School. Initial licensing was limited to one child in the Elementary School’s head start program, however, due to program success, was able to grow program to six clients throughout the various grade levels.•Vital part of clients program completion which resulted in their reintegration into normal class room settings.
