  Worked on developing large area, hexagonally close-packed monolayers of gold, polystyrene, and silica nanoparticles onto glass and silicon substrates to be used in microbial research using a Langmuir-Blodgett trough. Analyzed substrates with characterization instruments including SEM, FTIR, and Raman. Coated substrates with gold and silver to achieve better SEM resolution with sputter coaters, as well as chromium using a thermal evaporator.Modified silica particles with CTAB and stearic acid as a co-surfacatnt to render them partially hydropobic so they could order at the air-water interface.Optimized solvent ratios and target pressures with various bead sizes using the Langmuir-Trough to achieve optimal ordering.Presented data and finding to colleagues and superiors.
