  John Danahy is a Professor Emeritus and Associate Director of the Centre for Landscape Research at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto. He has taught in landscape architecture, urban design, planning, architecture, and knowledge media design. His most recent graduate urban design courses examined human-centered public realm design that fosters social life and active living in ecologically responsible communities. He leads the development of research software systems for decision-making in urban design at the Centre for Landscape Research (CLR). CLR’s tools have been used in urban design practice for over 30 years by cities, university research labs and community organizations. A recent and on-going project applied CLR’s tools for the Lakeview community in a way that allowed the citizens association to develop their own visioning plan and effectively convince Mississauga Council and the Ontario Cabinet to rethink Lakeview’s role as a high-carbon, dirty infrastructure based community and begin to transform Lakeview as a model sustainable complete community in a suburban setting.
