  Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)

  The Mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking.My grant allows me to work and network in 23 counties around Central Texas. I work to coordinate over 300 new volunteers each year and train them in victim services, working alongside of other agencies to eliminate drunk driving. Tracking goals and achievements and reporting back in monthly to our VOCA grant. I am fortunate to be able to speak at schools, colleges, service organizations, and corporations about drunk driving and its victims. My presentations have been to as few as 10 in a crowd as well as large as 2000 at military installations. I am able to provide services and information at employer based health fairs, conducting community education awareness about victim services and MADD and working with volunteers who have lost their loved ones or were injured by a drunk driving crash. Volunteers come in many forms, whether they came to MADD as a victim or simply agree with the mission of MADD, our volunteers are the heart and soul of our agency and we are well aware that without them at the forefront, our mission would be an impossible task.Recently, my grant has changed and now I am able to fundraise for MADD. I have written many community based grants and proud to say that they are funded on a regular basis. I am now allowed to also do presentations in person requesting monitory support on behalf of MADD. Fundraising is an integral part of nonprofits and we must each be well prepared to speak on behalf of our organization and recruit dollars as well as volunteers. I enjoy asking for donations, I don’t take it personally if my request is not funded by one organization over another, I only expect to learn more about what the grantor is looking for. Show less

I put together and co lead leadership retreats as well as ongoing meeting with the leaders of a 5000+member church. This was a great experience which helped me to trust that not only I knew what I was doing in leadership but that others around me respected the work I was doing and organizing.

  Volunteer Coordinator for Williamson County Disaster Recovery

  I worked part time for UMCOR assisting the case managers with the volunteer coordination for the Williamson County Long Term Recovery Committee. The floods that devastated Texas over the Memorial Day weekends did damage to over 400 homes in Williamson County alone. Over 320 of these homes were located in Taylor, Texas.I am recruiting volunteers, both short and long term volunteers from the local area as well as from out of the area, even out of state to come to Williamson County and assist in our rebuild efforts. We anticipate this to take up to two years to complete and look forward to helping families return to their homes. The mission of the LTRC is to organize and explore available resources through volunteers, community donations, grants, and partners to address the disaster recovery needs of individuals and families affected by the Memorial Day Flood of 2015 in an effort to provide a safe, secure, sanitary, and functional dwelling when available government and social agency funding is exhausted while needs remain.If you, your church, your service unit, sorority, fraternity, coworkers, or just your family would like to volunteer, please reach out and let me know.
