      Sensors and Nano-Technology Group at CEERI, Pilani has been involved in R&D for microelectronics and MEMS technologies of discrete devices and circuits employing 2-3" diameter semiconductor wafers. Silicon Nanostructures and Silicon Carbide are addional R&D activities. Nanocomposites soft magnetic materials for high frequency inductive components technology is most recent activity. Technology for DDR/SDR Si-IMPATTs for W-band applications had been a major past activity. The group provides a unique hands-on-training in MEMS by demonstrating fabrication of working prototypes of bulk micromachined polysilicon piezoresistive pressure sensors in 10 working days. Microfluidics plateform for health care systems based on MEMS technology has been taken up more recently. E-beam evaporation of polysilicon is a new technique recently introduced in sensor fabrication.Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology has been developed on single crystalline 4H-SiC material to fabricate Schottky diodes employing Ni as main barrier metal. Multifunctionality issues in MEMS sensors, Ion-solid interaction in SiC and Bio-MEMS activities have been initiated involving Ph.D thesis work. Fabrication methodology of MEMS accelerometer has been successfully developed. Development of diamond detectors technology involving polycrystalline and single crystal CVD substrates has been taken up. As a result of reorganising R&D groups at CSIR-CEERI, a new group of Flexible and Non-Silicon Electronics has been formed to meet the challenges of emerging flexible electronics besides strengthening the technology base in SiC and Diamond based devices and detectors.
