      Designed and implemented the Diabetes Program (Reduction Strategies of Diabetes Complications in African-Americans through Identification and Therapeutic Intervention of Pre-Diabetic States) funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.1. Developed and implemented the Diabetes Program curriculum inclusive of chronic disease informational sessions, nutrition demonstrations/classes, and exercise activities.2. Identified and recruited program participants and conducted bi-monthly body measurements and screenings, including collecting, compiling, and interpreting glucose and Haemoglobin A1C data.3. Supervised a group of ten undergraduate student Diabetic Health Educators in providing diabetes, nutrition, and physical activity education to residents of the Atlanta metropolitan area.4. Coordinated and used pre- and post-surveys, assisted with focus groups, and other data collection activities to determine the effectiveness of the Diabetes Program on program participants and shared findings with the CDC. Served as the lead contact and provided oversight for the Active Routes to School project, a NC Safe Routes to School intervention for increasing safe walking and bicycling to elementary and middle school students. 2. Provided technical assistance on physical activity-related strategies and their existing performance measures, partners, and projected budgets for the State Public Health Actions to Prevent and Control Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity and Associated Risk Factors and Promote School Health funding opportunity announcement. The Branch received the grant.3. Implemented the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Community Transformation Grant (CTG) Project Active Living strategies:-Led a partnership of faith-based and community based organizations focused on assessing community access to NC faith-based organizations’ physical activity facilities. Worked with a key community-based organization, created and administered the survey instrument using Qualtrics. Worked with evaluation unit manager to analyze survey data using STATA. Organized and presented the findings to NC faith-based organizations and public health practitioners.-Coordinated efforts of a multi-state CTG grantee team to publish a manuscript on joint use agreements lessons learned and calls-to-actions discovered through implementation of the CTG Project Active Living strategy. -Conducted a literature search and reviewed resources on best practices for incorporating health into community design and recommended a resource template to representatives from the NC Departments of Health and Human Services, Transportation, Environment and Natural Resources and Commerce, which was accepted. -Led the development of the North Carolina Guide for Incorporating Health Considerations into Comprehensive Plans, which highlights strategies for incorporating health into community comprehensive planning. Conducted a literature review on food access, park access, and play deserts as background information for a two-part “Defining Play Deserts” Virtual Expert Panel Meeting with the National Recreation and Parks Association. 2. Researched, reviewed, and developed a database of over 100 physical activity indicators and provided input on the final list for inclusion in the 2014 State Indicator Report on Physical Activity. 3. Conducted a pilot study of the new CDC Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Twitter account (@CDCObesity) to determine the reach and engagement of their messages to Twitter users during the 2012 Weight of the Nation conference, as well as, to improve the use of Twitter as a helpful health communication tool.4. Served as a review panelist for proposals received on the CDC’s State Public Health Approaches to Improving Arthritis Outcomes funding opportunity.Participated in a six-month rotation focused on local environmental health programs in the National Center for Environmental Health as a part of the CDC Public Health Prevention Service Fellowship. 1. Used quantitative and qualitative methodology to assess food and water safety.2. Created a survey instrument to capture concerns of local environmental health division’s food and water safety programs.3. Conducted key informant interviews with local environmental health managers to evaluate the utility and feasibility of the survey.       Managed the statewide implementation of the Active Routes to School project, a NC Safe Routes to School intervention for increasing safe walking and bicycling to elementary and middle school students.1. Oversaw and worked on project staffing needs and project workloads of ten regional project coordinators through monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings and trainings to assist them in implementing the grant’s goals and objectives.2. Organized the 2015 statewide Active Routes to School Conference for various professionals to discuss walking and bicycling to and at school in North Carolina.3. Developed and managed an analytic progress reporting database through Formstack to track the outcomes of the project monthly to ensure deadlines were met and analyzed and disseminated the findings through Active Routes to School success stories, conference presentations, webinars, senior-level staff meetings, and monthly, quarterly, and annual project status reports for the NC Department of Transportation. 4. Developed the Agreement Addendum (state FY 2015-2016) for non-competitive continuation of funding for the ten lead county health departments, which outlined the purpose, program implementation, and health organization activities for this project.
