Awarded cum laude. My PhD project was funded by an 'Onderzoekstalent' grant from NWO (the Dutch Research Council). My research analysed to what extent cultural heritage is a joint international interest and what consequences this has for the ways in which cultural heritage is protected. In doing so, I focused on the question as to whether a more explicit focus on human rights within the context of international heritage organisations can strengthen the position of individuals and local communities. The research was co-supervised by Prof. dr. Nico Schrijver (Leiden University) and Prof. dr. Yvonne Donders (University of Amsterdam). The manuscript was completed in August 2023, and the defence took place in May 2024. Show less
