I love a challenge and being a life-long learner! Running a Department with all that entails has been a fantastic experience and I have always prepared to put in long hours.I am passionate about teaching, supporting, mentoring and working with ākonga. I have always worked hard to provide resources and feedback to enable students to achieve at their best and also have many amazing opportunities.I have aimed to ensure that work for students is relevant and culturally responsive. My senior students worked on Individual Programmes of between 14 - 30 credits that produced highly successful results. My junior students developed their skills as musicians, and I aimed to provide groups in which they could share music.I am a team player and I really enjoy the mahi involved with supporting and mentoring our talented staff. I have found much satisfaction in teaching the curriculum; creating resources for units and assessments; writing reports to whanau and the Board of Trustees; running the budget; organising concerts, camps and student activities; communicating with ākonga and whanau; and coordinating and running fundraising ventures. Being the Musical Director and manager for several co-curricular groups each year has been a wonderful thing! It has been an honour and a privilege to watch students grow and develop through their years at Rosehill College. :)I will always have such special memories from all of my classes; plus our rehearsals and performances at annual concerts and KBB Music festivals; our school shows - Big Blue Planet Earth, Big Al, Fame, Grease, Oliver, Alice in Wonderland, Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard of Oz, Annie, and The Addams Family - and our Music Tours - North and South Island, Australia, Argentina, Malaysia, Singapore and China!I am now moving on to a new adventure where I have the opportunity to work with woodwind students and relieve classes at Ormiston Junior College.Working with students is a blessing, and this is why I teach! It has been an interesting three terms, with so many highlights! I have enjoyed the very cool challenge of being a member of three departments (Food Technology, Innovations and Social Studies). I have held two different fixed term positions - one full-time and one as a part-time teacher. During my part-time fixed term position, I also had the opportunity to fill in the rest of the time with relief teaching. This year, I have come to know many wonderful members of staff and many delightful students, and I have experienced a different school system. Teaching three new subjects has given me the opportunity to learn a great deal of new subject matter, and create resources after completing my own investigations. Show less
