      The DIT Access Service was established in 1999 to assist individuals and communities in overcoming socio-economic barriers to accessing higher education.Dublin Institute of Technology recognises the role of higher education in providing benefits to individuals and communities and is committed to ensuring that people and communities experiencing educational disadvantage are supported in accessing higher education.One of the ways in which DIT does this is via a week long Orientation Programme to help the incoming Access students.I applied for,and successfully obtained the job of Student Co-ordinator to aid the Access Service in making the week a reality.My duties included: • Helped to organise over a number of months the annual DIT Access Service Orientation Programme for over 250 incoming first year students.• Led a team of 15 student leaders throughout the course of the summer and during the OP itself, organising different events and activities.• Created and delivered presentations to the students. Delivered talks to students and parents.• Organised and communicated with external people to arrange different activities.• Constructed and delivered training modules in different areas such as PowerPoint. • Wrote a report on student evaluations of the OP and suggested changes for the following year.• Created a video of the week for promoting the Access Service.• Assisting members of staff at meetings and training students at these meetings.• Acting as co-chair of the Orientation Programme Show less

      The Take 5 Summer School is a joint initiative between the Access programmes in Trinity College, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, Dublin Institute of Technology and The National University of Ireland, Maynooth. The summer school is for students in 4th or 5th year. It takes place over 6 days.Each day is spent in a different college, doing taster college activities, attending lectures and workshops and visiting laboratories, taking part in sports and visiting sites around campus. I made it to the interview stage from hundreds of applications. 10 Access students from all across Ireland made it to the interview stage.Following the interviews I was successful and chosen as one of the recipients of the EIL Access Travel Award 2013.EIL Intercultural Learning is an Irish "not for profit" organisation which provides intercultural learning opportunities through study abroad, volunteer abroad, language training, travel awards, group educational programmes, and other cultural immersion activities for about 2,000 people each year. Was the only Irish representative in the final of the worldwide competition.
