Normally hidden from public view, the exhibition also aims to capture and preserve the memory of these buildings through vernacular photographs and oral histories -- important intangible evidence that compliments the tangible records of blue prints, models and industry photographs. The exhibition reveals the extent to which the community values modernist buildings as essential reminders of the era of nation building and modernization in the UAE. It also highlights the continuous search for identity today by Emirati architects who seek to reference local modernist architecture as the foundation for their work and a source of inspiration. The research method of is highly collaborative, reaching out to the local and international community, even inviting the audience in Venice to contribute to the growing archive. Show less
