Dealing with property, commercial contract, consumer, clinical negligence, personal injury, boundary disputes, employment, travel all with an emphasis of controlling the costs.Monitoring legal and industry developments, researching how changes impact our organisation and embedding any agreed updates in the firm’s processes. Creating and delivering excellent customer service by treating customers fairly, politely and ensuring all details of the claim are recorded accurately. Ensuring complaints are responded to within 4 weeks and experience of writing complaint letters.Resolving complex claims and ensuring that the solicitors representing the insured are providing us with a full and truthful account of case in terms of prospects of success.Maintaining correct reserves on outstanding cases and informing management if costs in a case are likely to exceed £20,000 or above. This is in relation to slip/trip property damage claims and public liability.I assess liability using case law and identify the best course of action after reviewing the case. I also undertake site visits and take photographs as necessary. I ensure that all claims are handled in accordance with the Council procedures and best practice guide.I also negotiate settlements in the best interests of the Council and in accordance with guidelines this can be up to £25,000 inclusive of legal costs.I deal with personal injury portal claims and value personal injuries with reference to appropriate source materials for example the JSB. I also ensure accurate reserves are placed on files so the Council are aware of their likely costs.I also have extensive knowledge of the Highways Act 1980 and Occupiers liability Act 1957 & 1984.I also have experience of defending the Council in relation to the Small Claims Court as required.I take notification of motor vehicle claims that the Council report on a daily basis.I also deal with ad-hoc enquires including the Council’s right to buy buildings insurance enquiries and tenants home contents insurance scheme.I consider property damage claims including water leaks, flooding to a Council tenants property and consider the Councils response before a decision on liability is made.
