  Survey Data Officer

  Working within the "Understanding Society" team preparing UK Household Panel Survey (UKHLS) data to be published for academic use, alongside documentation and other data projects within the Institute of Social and Economic Research. Key aspects of my role are as follows:● Stata processing and cleaning - Run numerous complex Stata scripts to create UKHLS datasets for a variety of users, culminating in the release of three Main waves of data, four Innovation Panel and other datasets. This also includes data cleaning and fixing of anomalies for greater data integrity and reliablity.● Stata variable creation - Oversee the management of existing and implementation of new derived variables for use in UKHLS datasets in upcoming and amended releases. Variables include additions to education, health and employment. In total over 100 variables across multiple waves of data and survey types.● Stata data linkage - Manage the linkage of external datasets to be paired with UKHLS datasets, such as DVLA sourced vehicle ownership statistics.● Stata files for external users - Preparation of internal Stata files for external UKHLS users to integrate in their own research, especially regarding derived variables, for instance on SDQ subscales in youth data.● Code Optimisation - Continual optimisation of the structure of data processing by updating legacy code and condensing large files.● Genetics Data Processing - creation of customised genetic and epigenetic datasets on a per user level, within both R and Stata. ● Documentation of processes and data extracts - Design and implement automated python scripts used to pull information from Colectica portal, which is used in survey documentationl external usage. Also produce internal documentation for how our data processes are conducted for staff training purposes. ● Liaison for data users - Liaise with data users to resolve and process varied data related issues, especially within genetic applications.
