Experience

Politecnico di torino
Sept 2008 - Jan 2011Teaching assistant and university tutor* Teaching Assistant for Calcus I and Calculus II classes at Faculty of Architecture (100/150 students). * Tutor for Calculus I classes (Faculty of Engineering).

Los alamos national laboratory
Mar 2011 - Dec 2011Intern - theoretical division, t-5 applied mathematics and plasma physics* Development of the core component of the Los Alamos Plasma Simulation (LAPS) code (C++, OpenMP, TMP, Matlab): a parallel particle-in-cell code characterized by extreme modularity resolved at compile-time by means of template metaprogramming techniques.* Use of the LAPS to analyze the chaotic motion of charged particles in Field Reversed Configurations and Tokamaks.

Politecnico di torino
Jan 2012 - Jun 2016Ph.d. candidate - structural engineeringIn the years 2012-2016 I attended a double PhD programme at the Centre for Analysis, Scientific computing and Applications (TU Eindhoven) and the Department of Structural Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. The core topic of my research has been Pedestrian dynamics tackled from the points of view of mathematical physics, measurements, modeling and of the dynamic interactions with civil structures. My activity has been founded by a Lagrange scholarship (Compagnia di San Paolo, Turin) and by Eindhoven University of Technology. As a Structural Engineering candidate my main tasks have been:* Produce continuous (fluid-like) and particle (agent based) simulations for crowd dynamics in built environment, possibly including dynamic structural response (C++, Matlab).* Mathematical analysis of crowd models (especially ODE and PDE based, first order) in the limit of large number pedestrians. Aims: quantitative comparison and discrete-continuum interchangeability. My supervisors at Politecnico di Torino have been prof. Luca Bruno and prof. Andrea Tosin.I defended my Structural Engineering PhD degree at Politecnico di Torino on the 2nd of June 2016. Show less

Jan 2013 - nowMy research deals with the fundamental physical properties of human crowd flows. To this aim I've been developing a real-time real-life pedestrian tracking system for crowd analytics. Through this system I've been collecting massive data (several millions trajectories) in various locations to power statistical mechanics-like research. The system is currently deployed at Naturalis Biodiveristy Center, at the Markthal living lab at TU/e campus and will be powering the "Moving light" experiment at Glow Eindhoven 2017.My research is funded by a NWO JSTP grant. Keywords: Real time crowd analysis | Computer vision for pedestrian dynamics | Neural Networks | High Performance Computing | Crowd management | Software Engineering & Software Architecture Show less In the years 2012-2016 I attended a double PhD programme at the Centre for Analysis, Scientific computing and Applications (TU Eindhoven) and the Department of Structural Engineering at Politecnico di Torino.
