      Jan 1983 - Feb 1988
      Assistant Scientific Officer

While working and training at this high security UK government research establishment I spent time in four different divisions gaining knowledge of processes used in each department. Towards the end of my time here I worked in the physics group on the cyclotron and was responsible for the production of active isotopes as well as the quality assessment and release certification of isotopically labeled drugs used in cancer detection. HPLC was used to determine the efficiency of the drug labeling process. Show less

      Jan 1988 - Jan 2003
      Scientist

Prior to my surface-related activities my sol gel chemical skills and experience were employed producing PZT (Lead Zirconium Titanate) and BaTiO3 (Barium Titanate) ceramics and thin films for ferroelectric memory devices as part of Alcan’s diversified R&D program. These same basic skills were utilised in aluminium metal pretreatment and coatings’ developments in Alcan’s core business areas, leading to my current interest and activities in the surface properties of the materials.Previous employmentAtomic Energy Research Establishment, AERE, Harwell Show less

    • Novelis

      Jan 2003 - Jul 2019

On secondment to the Novelis laboratory (formerly Alcan) in Neuhausen,Switzerland, where I investigated the effects of process and material variables on product performance in the automotive area. Determining, for example, associations between roll grind/ metal surface topography and formability. This formed the basis of my PhD project, for which I was studying at Birmingham University, England. In addition to this I was involved in a range of key Novelis product sectors and downstream applications, including packaging and lithographic areas. My work comprised of both research within the laboratory as well as technology transfer to the plants. Show less
