  The FXPlus Archives and Special collections is a unique resource in Cornwall, holding valuable material relating to Cornwall's past. As part of a module on Public History myself and my project partner were granted access to the Archives in order to create public history social media posts to help celebrate the life and work of Cornish playwright Nick Darke.

  I worked on the flagship project ‘Unlocking the Bankes Archive’ (a National Trust private collection being made public over the course of three years funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and private donations). As part of my two-week placement I met nearly all members of the DHC who took the time to show me how they contribute to its running. I spent some time digitising original Bankes documents and meeting with their Digital Officer who explained the challenges she faces. Cataloguing was another task I undertook, alongside outreach work which involved blog writing and helping with a tour of the centre. I also learnt in-depth about their relationship with the commercial site Ancestry.com, all of which helped in my piece written about Archives and the challenges they face. Show less
