As a Supplemental Instructor, I provide academic support for chemistry at UMass Amherst. I lead two study sessions every week that reinforce key concepts and build confidence in students. My work involves designing interactive, student-centered sessions that help clarify challenging material, promote critical thinking, and encourage collaborative problem-solving. By creating an inclusive environment, I support students in developing effective study habits, improving their understanding of complex subjects, and preparing for assessments. I also collaborate with faculty to align session content with course objectives, adapting each session to best meet students’ needs. This role allows me to contribute to students’ success by enhancing their comprehension, fostering independent learning, and increasing overall retention in the course. Show less As a Teaching Assistant, I support professors in the biology department in delivering high-quality instruction, assisting in both the planning and facilitation of discussion sections. I play a key role in enhancing student learning by clarifying complex topics, offering one-on-one guidance, and leading group discussions that deepen understanding of course material. In addition to grading assignments and proctoring exams, I provide constructive feedback that encourages student improvement and academic growth. This role requires strong communication, adaptability, and an ability to convey subject matter effectively to students with diverse learning needs. By working closely with faculty, I ensure course goals are met while fostering a supportive and engaging academic experience. Show less In my role as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Rotello Lab, I worked on the formulation and testing of innovative nanomaterials, specifically polyzymes and lipid nanoparticles. My responsibilities included formulating and purifying these materials, isolating them for further analysis, and characterizing their physical properties, such as size and charge. For lipid nanoparticles, I conducted various assays and antimicrobial tests to evaluate their safety and efficacy, ensuring that they met experimental standards. Additionally, I used a plate reader to determine the kinetic properties of catalyst-loaded polyzymes, gathering data crucial to understanding their activity and stability. This role allowed me to develop strong technical skills in nanoparticle synthesis, purification, and bioactivity testing, along with hands-on experience in data analysis. My work contributed to ongoing research efforts in nanomedicine, expanding potential applications in therapeutic delivery and antimicrobial treatments. Show less
