    • Tom Green County Sheriff's Office

      Jan 2006 - Jan 2008
      Reserve Deputy

As a deputy in the Reserve division, I was regularly assigned to the Patrol Division of the department to assist the deputies in their daily duties. The primary mission of the Reserve Division was to augment the Patrol Division when needed, due to call volume or short handedness. We were also a strong community relations division, providing pro bono services to the community whenever needed. As a Reserve Deputy, I was required to work only 16 hours per month; however, I regularly worked, uncompensated, 40+ hours each month. I conducted police patrols in rural Tom Green County, including the communities of Grape Creek, Wall, and Christoval. I engaged in traffic enforcement, focusing my efforts on DWI and narcotics enforcement when the call load permitted. I also responded to routine calls for service and took reports when necessary. During patrol, I enforced criminal and traffic law, and made arrests when necessary. In a reserve division of approximately 20 deputies, I was one of only four "Level-1" deputies who could operate and patrol as a one-man unit without the direct supervision of a regular paid deputy. As the primary responder, I conducted preliminary investigations of criminal offenses and wrote detailed reports documenting the events of criminal offenses, including sexual assaults, thefts, burglaries, drug and alcohol offenses, suicidal subjects, disturbances, and domestic violence. Also responded to medical calls on campus to assess patients and provide assistance and pertinent patient information to arriving EMS personnel.
