I work as part of the International Development Office's BD team as a lead on business development for commercial tenders. The role includes management of large commercial tenders, bid writing and budget development, supporting project set up and contracting, the development of partnerships with funders and partners, and working with academics across the university to develop innovative concepts and proposals. The OU's International Development Office (IDO) is a team dedicated to supporting governments and development partners in the global south to meet the massive demand from citizens for access to quality education. The OU was the world's first open and distance learning University, and 2 million students have learned with us over almost 50 years. Our team works with academics across the university to draw on all those years of innovation in pegadogy, and education technology and apply them to new contexts. This means we can help to create sustainable improvements to education systems which have the potential to reach many more people in more places than would ever be possible by traditional methods. We partner with governments to develop systems and curricula to ensure enough good teachers and health workers are trained. We work to develop ways to provide quality education to those displaced by conflict through distance learning. We also support universities in the global south to develop their own high-quality and robust distance learning systems as a means to open up higher education to more people across more disciplines, including STEM.
