      The first phase of my Apprenticeship was spent at Melton Mowbray College, full time, for one year. My studies covered a wide range, from fitting and welding to electrical work. Following this, the second and third phases were spent in the various departments of 35 Base Workshop (REME). For the fourth phase, due to the unfortunate closure of 35 base workshop, I went on to complete my Apprenticeship at The Boots Company in Beeston, Nottingham. Here, I learned maintenance and repair skills on a variety of high-speed manufacturing equipment. Show less

      I was responsible for the repair and maintenance on manufacturing equipment such as 415V electric motors, reactor vessel mechanical seals and various liquid/vacuum pumps. Carried out routine safety maintenance checks on fume extraction systems and breathing air apparatus.  Other skills included pipe fitting and general workshop fitting.  Later into the position, my role extended to include production line engineering.  Machinery that I was required to maintain, repair and modify included liquid filling machines, induction heat sealers, labelling machines and a box sealer.  This required electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic skills enabling all machinery to operate correctly and efficiently.       My role as a Production Technician, working within a team was to operate, repair, maintain and modify fast moving production machinery.  I mostly worked on the high-speed robotic filling machine. The role included initial technical training at the machines manufacturing plant in Sweden. I learned how to repair, maintain and program the machine, enabling it to fill a variety of different products. This required electrical, pneumatic and mechanical skills to ensure the machine operated correctly and efficiently. Show less

      I re-joined The Boots Company under the Control and Instrumentation Department, working within a team of Engineers. My roles and responsibilities consisted of installation, calibration, testing, inspection and maintenance on a range of equipment such as protective relays, computers, logic controllers, control systems on gas turbines, generators and plant auxiliary equipment. In-depth fault diagnosis using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments. Performed scheduled preventive maintenance work and completion of maintenance reports. Read and interpret instruction manuals, blueprints and control system drawings. Completion of all written and electronic records (i.e. work orders, calibration sheets, time cards, material requests) required to document the work in progress and upon completion. Interface with outside contractors on new installations for electrical and process control system.
