      Medical scientist

      Medical Scientist in Haematology Laboratory, UHLIn UHL we use the Roche CT-90 tracking system and the CT-10 Tube Sorter. I am fully trained on haematology specimen reception, Siemens Advia analyser as well as the Sysmex XN-10 and XN-20 analysers for Full Blood Counts (FBC), the Tosoh G11s for glycated haemoglobins, the STAR Stago Analyser for routine and specialised coagulation testing (which includes intrinsic and extrinsic factor assays, Von Willebrand Antigen testing, Anti-Xa, thrombophilia and lupus anti-coagulant testing) as well as the Siemens Ristocetin Co-Factor analyser. I am also fully competent on the Starssed Interliner for Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), manual platelet and reticulocyte counts, SickleDex for sickle cell, the Benson Viscometer for Plasma Viscosity, and the Siemens Advia Centaur immunoassay analyser for haematinics testing. In the lab I participate in analyser maintenance, troubleshooting issues, IQC, EQA, calibrations, stock delivery and acceptance. I am also fully trained on the morphology bench which includes making and staining blood films using the Haematek and/or the Sysmex SP-50. I am trained to review blood films and perform white blood cell differentials as well as testing for malaria via antigen, PCR and by May-Grunwald Giemsa Stain.I have experience as a deputy on the Haematinics bench and am currently the deputy for the coagulation bench. I have been the MLSA union representative for Haematology since 2020. I also am in charge of promoting and documenting CPD points earned throughout the year. I actively participate in the Haematology Lab on-call roster to provide an emergency laboratory service to the University Hospital Limerick Group (UHL, Ennis, Nenagh, St Johns Hospital, Croom and the Maternity). I take part in quality assurance regularly. External quality assessment schemes UK NEQAS, IEQAS, and ECAT are schemes in which I participate in. Show less
