    • New York University

      2000 - 2003
      Bachelor's Degree Mathematics

I graduated with honors in mathematics. I was paid by the Math Department to tutor students in calculus, algebra, statistics, and combinatorics. I won the NYU Mathematics Award for excellence in mathematics and service to the department.

    • Columbia University in the City of New York

      2006 - 2008
Master’s Degree Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics

I focused on more analytical aspects of structural engineering. Besides the standard steel and concrete design, I took courses in vibration analysis, finite element methods, and dynamics and statics. My independent research focused on quantifying the growth numerical and measurement uncertainties through calculations.

    • University of California, Los Angeles

      2004 - 2005
      Master's Degree Applied Mathematics

Besides the standard coursework on analytical solutions to ordinary and partial differential equations, I focused on numerical analysis of differential equations and applications to dynamic and static engineering problems.

  • Experience

    • New York University

      May 2002 - Dec 2004

I modified and maintained laboratory equipment to take high-speed video of a liquid jet in a parallel film with laminar flow. I developed and applied original filters to the digital video in MATLAB to track the jet's position and characterize different flow modes. I presented my findings at two American Physical Society conferences. I wrote MATLAB code to simulate neural activity in the human visual cortex. I developed Monte Carlo simulations and presented my findings at NYU and at Brown University. I was funded by an NSF VIGRE grant.

      • Researcher: Experimental Fluid Dynamics

        May 2003 - Dec 2004
      • Researcher: Computational Neural Science

        May 2002 - Jan 2004
    • Weidlinger Associates, Inc.

      May 2005 - Aug 2005
      Applied Science Intern

I learned C and used it to interface Weidlinger's in-house finite element blast simulation code with an experimental optimization software package. I wrote guidelines for this interface and presented the trial optimization runs at UCLA.

    • Ammann & Whitney

      May 2006 - Aug 2006
      Engineering Intern

I checked shop drawings for rehabilitation/repair work on the Triborough Bridge.

    • Thornton Tomasetti

      Sept 2006 - Mar 2009
      Senior Engineer

I designed steel and concrete structural elements for shear, torsion, flexure, tension, and compression. I developed shop drawings and conducted field visits to facilitate new construction and repair work. I co-founded the company's sustainability group, emphasizing LEED construction and Life Cycle Assessment. I was promoted and captained the championship-winning company basketball team.

    • SCS Global Services

      Mar 2010 - Jul 2010
      Life Cycle Associate

I conducted life cycle assessments to compare the relative environmental impacts of steel vs. wood utility poles. I gathered data on forestry practices in the United States and researched steel production and utility pole fabrication. I used KCL ECO and standard LCA methodology.

    • Kaplan Test Prep

      Jan 2011 - Mar 2012
      Teacher

I taught SAT prep classes to high school students.

    • State of NY Metropolitan Transportation Authority

      Mar 2012 - Nov 2015
      Associate Staff Analyst

I conducted job analyses, site visits, surveys, and focus groups to develop and administer civil service examinations for technical titles such as Track Worker, Track Equipment Maintainer, and Bus Maintainer. I supervised and coordinated practical examinations and interviewed candidates for provisional positions. I was promoted twice and trained other Exams staff.
