In Year 10 at Whitehaven School, I was required to undergo some work experience. Bar Associate

For my job role as a bar associate, I took part in ensuring all individuals that came to the bar had been served within a couple of minutes of reaching the bar. I also had the job of maintaining the main floor to ensure all dirty dishes and glasses had been collected, as well as making sure tables were clean ready for the next customers coming into the premises. My job also entailed me delivering orders and taking orders to tables when their was a staff shortage, if the bar was able to be left alone for a couple of minutes or if another employee within JD Wetherspoon could watch the bar whilst I was away. Sept 2015 - Sept 2015
      Event Management / Receptionist

As part of my work experience for my current Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business course, I was asked to work with Industrial Exhibitions as a receptionist/event management. I was assigned tasks of welcoming guests and participants to the exhibition, as well as provide them with a brief description of where each stage of the exhibition would be held, and to lastly hand guests a goodie bag in which they could fill throughout the exhibition or take with them as they left. Also throughout this experience, I got a chance to walk through the exhibition and gather some information about each participant and what their project entailed. I also had the chance of being a part of a team that helped put the exhibition together for the exhibitors the day before, which gave me the chance to see all the hard work and equipment and organisation which needed to be put forward to ensure that the exhibition ran smoothly the following day. Alongside putting the exhibition together, I also had the opportunity of taking the exhibition down to see how more organisation was put forth to ensure that everything was handled carefully and professionally so that no member of the exhibition got harmed in the process. Within this role with my team, we organised fundraisers such as cake sales and sweet sales to help raise money for decorations and food for the event. I also participated in producing tickets, posters, brochures, as well as helped in bringing schools into the process of asking them to be apart of the event by providing prizes for the raffle to which they would later be put on an official release of the companies that took part in helping raise money. Overall, the Ladies Lunch managed to raise £527.55 altogether to help aid Hospice At Home. Show less

      Event Management / Receptionist

For this experience, it was a two day opportunity to help set-up an event and to also help run the event the following day after. On the first day, I helped ensure all exhibitors within the event had the right equipment and set-up space they had been indicated. The following day was the event and for this experience, I helped run the reception alongside two other individuals, checked around the exhibitors to ask a few questions regarding their products, helped hand out feedback forms at the end of the event as well as collected Sellafield badges. I also helped in assisting other members of the Industrial Exhibitions team with the take down of the exhibition, ensuring all tables and chairs had been collected and put away, as well as helped in dismantling the reception area I worked in by putting the signs, tools and paperwork away. My work experience was over two days, helping me further gain my skills, knowledge and understanding about the Nuclear Industry. On Day 1 I took part in helping set up the exhibition, by handing out badges to exhibitors, making badges for the exhibitors, ensuring the exhibitors were at their right stands as well as generally helping out in any way I could. On Day 2 I took part in the exhibition as being a receptionist, by welcoming guests to the exhibition, taking their information and generally making sure everything was okay. I also took part in some database management by storing all information from guests onto Microsoft Excel, as well as at the end of the exhibition helped take everything down and assisted in anyway possible. Show less Over the course of two days, I participated in the running of the Nuclear Solutions Exhibition in Warrington. On the first day of my two day placement, I helped with the coming together of the exhibition by ensuring every exhibitor had the right placement, equipment and resources they needed for their stands. I also helped in creating the reception area which was used the following day to check-in clients, and collect any relevant details which could be used for future exhibitions. Also, during the first day I participated in the helping of setting up 'speed dating' for the exhibitors which allowed for exhibitors to have one-to-ones with potential clients to secure business. On the second day of the exhibition I worked as a receptionist, by checking in clients by collecting their details either on a sign-in sheet or through their business card. I also helped manage the database system for Industrial Exhibitions by cataloguing all relevant information from the exhibition's clients to ensure the right information was accounted for so that future press releases and information could be sent out to potential clients and exhibitors. Also, during the day I helped in the management of collecting feedback from the exhibitors as well as insisted in the take down of the exhibition once the event had finished. Show less
