  I worked as a Mate on several cruises - Sail Training young people from 13 years to 21 years old. I also acted as 'escort' for school parties on many of these trips. I acted Mate on two legs of a round the world voyage on "John Laing" a 70ft OYC Ketch - from Perth, S.Australia to Mauritius and also on to Capetown, S.Africa. I was responsible for training a watch group in all aspects of running the yacht, including safety, maintenance, general duties, provisioning, navigation and sailing skills - team work is paramount!This was a volunteer position & unpaid.
