Part of the winning team in the Design and Build competition, for Mechanical Design unit. Took part in leading the QUT Robotics club to a healthy position. Engaged in summer research scholarship.

      www.studentbillboards.com.auBusiness start-up in a unique form of marketing. Winner of existing start-up category in the Brisbane Student Start-up Pitching Competition 2013 held at QUT. Student Billboards represented by the other Co-Founder Mercedes (my wife!) came to be a grand-finalist in Ernst & Young "Survive the Panel" business pitching competition in 2013.The business had a slow start, due to other commitments from the founders, and after a few successful short campaigns is now in hibernation. Investigations into hardware platforms for educational use at the university for it's robotics major courses.3D LIDAR system using ROS and Clearpath Husky mobile robotic platform. Circuit design, firmware, integration and basic application with ROS in Ubuntu in the Husky's onboard computer.16-Bit ADC and control board for remote sensor network application in ground gas emissions of CO2 and CH4. Small sized "Bat Tracker" GPS module and integrated circuit board with logging functionality for placement on the backs of "macro bats". 3 kW white LED strobe array with camera sync for use in Mobile Robotics and Stereo Vision in nocturnal environments.       Machine Vision applications using SICK 3D Cameras and OpenCV coupled with custom image processing algorithms for detection tasks. Lead Electronics and Hardware engineering tasks, for in-house R&D and production ready projects. Fast paced multiple-project work environment, learning new technology on the fly. High speed (but sub-RF) analogue sensor design, parallel time-critical FPGA based sensor capture interface, multiple microcontroller based (8-bit AVR and 32-bit ARM architectures) designs. Interfacing with Single Board Computers (Beaglebone, Minnowboard) for application level processing. Involved in project Requirements and Estimations stages for possible projects, proof of concept algorithm and rapid prototyped circuit designs. Frequent use of KiCAD for schematic capture and PCB layout design, LTSpice and TI-NA for circuit simulation. Electrical sub-panel layouts and cable schedules/wiring harness design.Frequent use of C++ and Microsoft Visual Studio (2005 -> 2017 editions) for automation and machine vision applications, including 3D point cloud processing.
