The ELAC controls a portion of the school budget dedicated to English language learning and offers recommendations to the administration on how to utilize the funds. San Francisco Unified School District’s Cantonese Biliteracy program at Elementary School level (K-5th grade) is designed for potential English learners who are native speakers of Cantonese, serving students whose home language is Cantonese and bilingual students who speak both English and Cantonese.       -Spearheaded a brand-new middle school Chinese Dual Language Immersion program for 35 incoming 6th grade students, and taught subjects in 3 languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. 100% of these students stayed in the program the following year to 7th grade. On this day, this program has expanded to all grades.-Trained school administrators and teachers on language instruction and instructional strategies.-Scheduled 35 parent-teacher conferences twice a year to discuss student progress and provided strategies for parents.-Collaborated with the district Multilingual Department to develop Chinese curriculum and create instructional material and student resources to be utilized at other schools.San Francisco Unified School District’s Chinese Dual Language Immersion program at Middle School level (6-8th grades) is designed to develop Chinese language proficiency for students rising from K-5 Cantonese Biliteracy and K-5 Cantonese Dual Language Immersion programs, serving students who are fluent in both Cantonese and English.
